Open Pottery Studio

Open Pottery Studio allows individuals with previous pottery knowledge to freely create new works of art! A studio monitor will be in attendance to answer questions and provide advice, but only minimal instruction is provided. Students receive as much low-fire Gator White clay as they need for $1.00/lb, use of the pottery wheel, slab roller, and all tools and glazes. Students may also bring any low-fire clay, low-fire glazes, and tools, they may want to use. STAA will handle all bisque and glaze firing on site. Firings will take place at the end of the third and fourth weeks of studio, so make sure your pieces are bone dry and ready! Any additional firings will be a $15 charge per firing to the student.

Bring your friends, sip some wine, and create your very own mug!

Students will learn the basics of handbuilding with clay to create a custom mu! Instructor Angelina Quigley will teach students how to work with the slab roller, coiling technique, or pinch pot to shape their mugs. Students will work with stamps and tools to add texture to their pieces, add attachments, and use underglazes to add color. Pieces are then fired, and students will receive an email when they are ready to be picked up!

from 11:00am to 1:00pm

Students will learn step by step how to throw basic forms on the potter’s wheel. In the first class, students will learn and practice making different vessels that could be wheel thrown such as mugs, bowls, and plates. Students will trim their thrown pieces and then work with stamps and tools to add different textures, designs, and attachments to their work. In the last class students will apply glazes and the instructor will give students a time and date to pick up their fired pieces. Students are asked to bring an old rag or towel to use for clean up!

Easter Egg Platters

Be the talk of your family’s Easter celebration with a custom, handmade deviled egg platter! Students will use the slab roller to create uniform pieces of clay to then cut and form their desired shape of platter! Use tools to create egg-shaped indentations, textures, and designs. Students will also underglaze details onto their platters. Platters will be dried and fired, and students will be notified when they are ready to be picked up!

Valentine's Vases

This year for Valentine’s Day, ditch the florist’s vase for your own unique creation!
Students will use the slab roller to roll out clay that will then be built and formed into a vase. From there, use tools, texturizers, cookie cutters, and glazes to customize your vase into a romantic piece you can love for years to come. Vases will be fired and ready for pick up before Valentine’s Day, so you can give your sweetheart a gift they’ll love!

Want to have a girls night, a date night, or a night of family fun? Join us to celebrate the holidays in an artistic way!

Join STAA and Angelina Quigley to create your own Charcuterie Board! Students will use the slab roller to create a base for their platter. From there, use sculpting and carving techniques to create your holiday platter uniquely your own! Sculpt and paint food-safe underglaze and glaze designs to make each platter exactly what you need! Platters will then be glossed and and fired in our kiln to be picked up at a later date.

Ceramic Christmas Tree Glazing

This single-session workshop meets
saturday, December 6th
From 1:00pm - 3:00pm

Join us for a casual and fun night of creative glazing! Each student will receive a set of three small (6in, 4.5in, & 3.5in) bisque-fired Christmas trees to uniquely decorate with gloss glazes. Layer colors to create a snowy effect, or use your imagination to make a whimsical pattern with unconventional colors! Share the love by bringing a group of friends or family, distribute your finished pieces, and you’ll have a piece of each other all holiday season! Pieces will be fired in the kiln after class, and students will be notified when their trees are ready for pickup!
