2-session pottery wheel class
friday, february 20th & 27th
from 6:00pm - 8:00pm

Join Angelina in this two-session class to create your own ceramic travel mug! In your first class, learn how to wedge, center, and throw a basic cylindrical shape on the potter’s wheel. Students will then form their spout, attach it to their mug, and decorate with stamps, tools, and glazes. Mugs will be fired in the kiln, and students will be notified when their pieces are ready for pickup!

Join STAA for its new program, the CCC! Each club meeting will offer a brief collage tutorial followed by lots of fun with paper and glue! Feel free to bring any projects or materials you wish to work on. Sharing of ideas, tops, and supportive feedback with the group is encouraged. We will have plenty of ephemera and supplies on hand. All ages welcomed, and experience is not required!

this 3-week class meets
Saturday, march 7th, 14th, & 21st
from 11:00am to 1:00pm

Students will learn step by step how to throw basic forms on the potter’s wheel. In the first class, students will learn and practice making different vessels that could be wheel thrown such as mugs, bowls, and plates. Students will trim their thrown pieces and then work with stamps and tools to add different textures, designs, and attachments to their work. In the last class students will apply glazes and the instructor will give students a time and date to pick up their fired pieces. Students are asked to bring an old rag or towel to use for clean up!

This four-week course meets
monday, march 2nd, 9th, 16th & 23rd from 6:oopm - 8:00pm

Drawing from Life is an open level foundational course on charcoal drawing. The class will cover key principles to create a successful drawing by supporting the artists with practice in value, texture, composition and form from a staged still-life. A still-life is a composed arrangement of inanimate objects and colorful fabrics on pedestals. They create strong aesthetics in light and color. Using charcoal, the class will learn several techniques including straight-line, reductive, and contour drawing. Artists will complete at least three large drawings with numerous sketches and studies.

4-week course meets
thursday, march 5, 12, 19, & 26
from 5:00pm - 7:00pm

This Intermediate Watercolor Course goes beyond the essentials of watercolor painting. Together with Rachael, students will navigate a variety of techniques and exercises that apply to creating works that fit the Floral and Still Life Genre. Rachael will guide students in sharpening the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to create personal and creative works with watercolor. This course is for adults only. Saturday, March 14th from 2:00pm - 4:00pm

Be the talk of your family’s Easter celebration with a custom, handmade deviled egg platter! Students will use the slab roller to create uniform pieces of clay to then cut and form their desired shape of platter! Use tools to create egg-shaped indentations, textures, and designs. Students will also underglaze details onto their platters. Platters will be dried and fired, and students will be notified when they are ready to be picked up!

tuesday, March 17th

Join STAA and instructor Blair Barlow for a linocut print class that explores illustrating poetry! This class will walk the participants through a meditation on poetry and sketch images that arise. We will then translate these sketches into a linocut carving and decorate the cover of a sketchbook with your original print. Come and explore print making and stretch your creative muscles!

This 4-week COURSE meets Friday, March 20, 27, april 10, & 17
from 10am to 12pm

In this four-week class, students will learn how to paint with gouache. Gouache is a wonderful opaque watercolor paint that has been around for centuries. It is used on paper and dries to a matte finish. You will learn all its various uses, from thick to thinned with water, layering techniques and beyond, and ending class with a unique India Ink technique. Students will work from imagination, still life and copying a 19th century master work. Note: This is a hands-on painting class, with both classwork and homework.

THe second wednesday of each month

Drawing is the foundation of the arts, the basis of all eventual understanding of every form of painting, including abstract, figure, landscape, etc. Drawing classes stress the comprehension of value, proportion and scale.

Bring your own drawing utensils and paper/newsprint or whatever you wish to draw on. This is a laid back group of art enthusiasts that gather to learn from each other and draw. All levels of experience welcome. Adults only; under 18 with parent permission.

Open Pottery Studio allows individuals with previous pottery knowledge to freely create new works of art! A studio monitor will be in attendance to answer questions and provide advice, but only minimal instruction is provided. Students receive as much low-fire Gator White clay as they need for $1.00/lb, use of the pottery wheel, slab roller, and all tools and glazes. Students may also bring any low-fire clay, low-fire glazes, and tools, they may want to use. STAA will handle all bisque and glaze firing on site. Firings will take place at the end of the third and fourth weeks of the month, or as needed, so make sure your pieces are bone dry and ready! Any additional firings will be a $15 charge per firing to the student.
Come and go during the offered dates and times as you please! We ask that students that require use of the pottery wheel email maggy@sttammany.art with their required dates to reserve a wheel. All students must clean up after themselves before leaving!

Single-session workshop on
Friday, April 17th

Mother’s Day is just around the corner! Make mom a mug, share an experience with her, or have a therapy sesh with the girls while you sip some wine and get creative!

Students will learn the basics of handbuilding with clay to create a custom mug! Instructor Angelina Quigley will teach students how to work with the slab roller, coiling technique, or pinch pot to shape their mugs. Students will work with stamps and tools to add texture to their pieces, add attachments, and use underglazes to add color. Pieces are then fired, and students will receive an email when they are ready to be picked up!

Mother’s Day is right around the corner! Choose your technique in this all ages workshop to make mom a custom trinket dish!
Join Angelina in this simple, single-session workshop to create small trinket dishes on the pottery wheel or with the slab roller! Learn the beginning basics of wedging, centering, and throwing a plate or small bowl! Once finished throwing, students can use stamps, tools, and glazes to decorate their pieces. Dishes will then be fired in the kiln, and students will be notified when they are ready to be picked up!

Single-Session workshop

Join local jewelry designer Angelle LeBouef at St. Tammany Art Association in downtown Covington for a hands-on jewelry making experience. Participants will learn foundational design techniques while working with semi-precious stones and gold-plated hardware, creating one custom necklace to take home. Students will choose from a variety of colors, gold spacers, and freshwater pearls!
Inspired by the natural beauty of stones, Angelle is a locally based artist and mother of six who loves helping others create meaningful, wearable pieces that reflect their own personal style.

Everyone’s favorite pottery camp is back! Ceramics instructors, Janie Dick and Angelina Quigley, will explore old and new techniques used throughout history in ceramics with students. Campers will work with clay and use a variety of techniques to create fabulous ceramic pieces. While developing their fine and major motor skills, children will be encouraged to use their imaginations to create functional and sculptural work on the potter’s wheel and through handbuilding techniques.
