Introduction to Watercolor

Introduction to Watercolor is a 4-week course that acquaints the beginner with the essentials of watercolor painting. Students will explore techniques, methods, and various properties of watercolors. A number of exercises will guide students through the preparation and painting process, helping to develop the skills and knowledge needed to begin a personal exploration of the medium and to create basic designs and forms in watercolor.

Opening Reception for Hand of the Master

The paintings of Benedictine Monk and artist Dom Gregory de Wit bring Biblical and historical narratives to life through emotive and vibrant color palettes, bold use of iconography, and compositions often full of bizarre details that could only be rendered at the “Hand of the Master”.

Join us at the Art Association on Saturday, December 7 for Nutcracker Tea complete with ballet dancers from Ballet Apetrei and a special visit from Santa Claus.

Your $50 admission includes The English Tea Room's High Tea service with finger sandwiches, hors d'oeuvres and desserts.

Seating is limited. Advanced purchase/reservations required.

Presented by The English Tea Room and the St. Tammany Art Association.

Kids’ Thanksgiving Arts Camp

Monday, November 25; Tuesday, November 26; & Wednesday, November 27, 2019, from 9:00 am - 3:30 pm

Instructor: Rachel Loyacano Williams

Please send your child with a bag for lunch as well as a morning snack, and water bottle.

Beloved kids’ camp instructor, Rachel Williams, guides campers through basics of painting, drawing, printmaking, and mixed media projects in a hands-on learning environment.

Each day, the children will learn about a famous artist combined with a fun Art History lesson that will be the basis for projects using their own imaginations.

*Sign your little artist up for the full three-day camp session, or purchase a spot by day to fit your busy schedule.


All campers will need to be signed in and out at the front desk each day by an adult. The Art House will open at 8:30 am for drop-off with camp beginning at 9 am. Please pick up your campers between 3:30 - 4:00 pm.

All are welcome to take part in the conversation beginning at 5:00 pm that will cover everything from artwork selections, to the impact that these iconic New Orleans artists have made not only on Louisiana culture but on an international scale as well.

The discussion will be followed by a Closing Reception to celebrate the Northshore Invitational from 6 - 8 pm.

Discover the basics of watercolor and pen and ink to create watercolor paintings. Through instruction, you will learn the aspects of color mixing and the nature of watercolors, layering and working with the fluidity of the medium, different techniques of shading, and more. With this course, you can enhance your knowledge of color, line, and creating depth with watercolor in order to develop your own artistic style with this medium.

STAA Artist Roundtable Meeting

St. Tammany Artist Roundtable (STAR) meetings were created to unite, stimulate and support the artist community in St. Tammany Parish by giving artists in all walks of their careers the opportunity to commune with peers over conversations about art, artists, creative tips, techniques, and challenges.

Meetings are held every second Saturday, 11 am-1 pm at the Art House in Downtown Covington. STAR is free and open to the public. STAA membership is encouraged but not required.

Don Marshall, Executive Director of the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation, brings together some of Louisiana’s most notable artists in his return to the St. Tammany Art Association (STAA) as he curates the “Northshore Invitational”, a special Fall for Art exhibition.

Bill Binnings, Douglas Brewster, Jerry Cannon, Emery Clark, Jose Maria Cundin, George Dunbar, Alan Flattman, Rolland Golden, Mark Grote, John Hodge, Shirley Rabé Masinter, Bunny Matthews, Bernard Mattox, Francie Rich, Philip Sage, Jean Seidenberg, Leslie Staub, Kathleen Trapolin, Hasmig Vartanian, Robert Warrens and Ed Whiteman.

While all of these artists had their start in New Orleans, the group spans a wide range of media, age, and backgrounds. Don Marshall covers the full scope of Louisiana artists and art history with this diverse group of nationally recognized artists.
