Want to know why Van Gogh, Cezanne, and Monet’s paintings are so famous and well-loved? in this class, instructor Rachel Crawford will let you in on one of their secrets and help you take your work to a new level.

This class will explore the color wheel by mixing colors using the scientific theory of colors. Each week we will create small paintings applying theory from the color wheel.

This 4-week Intermediate Photography Course will further your understanding of your digital camera and creating more compositionally aesthetic images.  You will learn how to use your camera and its settings to your advantage.  We will go out ‘in the field’ and shoot together as well as have a friendly critique of your chosen images with feedback from myself and your peers.

Students will be guided through the basics of wheel throwing with instructor Steve Hasslock. More advanced students will be given more challenging instruction in accordance with their skill level.

Experimental Abstract Acrylic Painting

We will explore and experience a variety of painting techniques, media, and historical approaches to art. Experimental Abstract painting is a problem-solving workshop dealing with form, color, line, and texture. Through the use of drawings, photographs, and imagination, students interpret and express the painter ’s world in acrylic paint.

This course provides an introduction to the necessary skills and problems of designing and binding books by hand.

We will cover a variety of bookbinding techniques, ranging from straightforward books made by cutting and folding a single sheet of paper, to entirely hand-sewn hardcover books. We will cover many new methods and approaches. Still, you are encouraged to incorporate any materials with which you have the experience into the work that you do. That is a great thing about books—they can contain just about anything.

This course is informal and experienced-based. You get out what you put into it. Ideally, the class will function like a workshop where everyone is working, sharing ideas, and learning together. Along with the concepts and skills essential to making books by hand, hopefully, this course will promote critical thinking about, and direct, hands-on engagement with them.

St. Tammany Artist Roundtable (STAR) meetings were created to unite, stimulate and support the artist community in St. Tammany Parish by giving artists in all walks of their careers the opportunity to commune with peers over conversations about art, artists, creative tips, techniques, and challenges.

Meetings are held every second Saturday, 11am-till at the Art House in Downtown Covington. STAR is free and open to the public. STAA membership is encouraged but not required.
