Palatte 2 Palate

Palette 2 Palate-edge.jpg

Palette 2 Palate is a remarkable fundraising gala hosted by the St. Tammany Art Association. Held in the galleries of the 19th century Art House in Covington’s Historic District, this exciting event unites two important Louisiana cultural traditions: Louisiana seafood cuisine prepared by a famous guest chef and an exhibition of fine art by well-known south Louisiana artists. Mark Johnson, the new mayor of Covington, will serve as Master of Ceremonies. The event will take place on Thursday, November 7, 2019 from 6:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m.

Our award-winning chef is Patrick Gallagher, a native of St. Tammany Parish and owner of Gallagher’s 527 in Mandeville, Gallagher’s Grill in Covington and Gallagher’s on Front Street in Slidell. He has been a vendor at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival serving Louisiana seafood dishes for 15 years. Chef Gallagher will prepare a special five course Louisiana seafood menu for our seated dinner.

The event will take place against a backdrop of the exciting and important Northshore Invitational.” Don Marshall, Executive Director of the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival Foundation, is curating this exhibition of 21 nationally renowned artists who began their careers in New Orleans and who now live and work in St. Tammany.

The monies raised at the Palette 2 Palate Gala will help support STAA programming including monthly exhibitions at the Art House, the Spring and Fall for Art Festivals in downtown Covington, and art classes for children, young adults, and adults. The STAA is a driving force for the arts and economic development in Historic Downtown Covington, Covington’s Cultural Arts District, and St. Tammany Parish.

Bending Lines - Film Screening

BENDING LINES POSTER 27 X 40 021219 150 dpi RGB.jpg

Bending Lines is a story of obsession, of vision, and of the enduring conversation between art and science. It uncovers an amateur mathematician, obscured by time and his profession, whose work communicates the universal quest to discover the essence of the natural world.

Nearing the end of his life, sculptor Robert Wiggs looks back on a lifelong obsession with patterns. Never formally trained in mathematics, Wiggs studied mud cracks, bee hives, and tree bark to create a geometric system that rivals the work of academic mathematicians, a system which he expressed and explored in scores of sculptures.

Artist Talk with Michel Varisco

BreathingStraw_©MichelVarisco.jpg

Artist Q & A

with Michel Varisco

Sunday, March 24th, 4PM

Michel Varisco has been a working artist for over two decades. While known primarily as a photographer, Varisco redefines the medium by creating photo-based assemblages, and site-specific installations that function in accordance with her still photographs.

In “Just Below the Surface” Varisco takes the seriousness of environmental and personal themes and creates a whimsical experience she calls “magical realism”. “We’re losing our heritage land. In a desperation to communicate the fix we’re in, I just took everybody under water with me; fast-forwarding into a modern-day Atlantis,” explains Varisco.
