Visual art camp - acrylic photo transfers
Week 1: Pet Portraits
Week 2: Louisiana Wildlife

Campers will use an acrylic photo transfer method, which is adaptable to all ages. Campers will first transfer their photo onto a canvas in black and white using an acrylic medium. Next, they paint portraits in either traditional or non-traditional colors. 
The digital photos are to be sent in advance.  Once registered, you will receive an email with instructions on uploading or emailing photos.

Discovering Watercolor

This Discovering Watercolor Course is for all skill levels. This four-week course explores nontraditional watercolor techniques. Together, we will navigate a variety of techniques and exercises. Rachael will guide you in developing the skills, knowledge, and confidence in these unique areas of watercolor creation. No prior knowledge of watercolor is required! This course is for adults only. This course is mainly about having fun, creating art with unexpected outcomes, and applying experimental skills to everyday watercolor ideas.

In this beginner-level course, Carolyn Biggio discusses art history, developing color masses, and oil techniques with students. Carolyn will give presentations on art history, specifically the development from academic painting to impressionism in 19th Century France, and will teach students how to develop shape, color masses, and volume. Students will work new with objects each week - including transparent objects. This class is great for students who wish to learn about the all-encompassing history and techniques of oil paints and still life!

Watercolor: Beginner Botanicals is a four-week course in June that explores the essentials of watercolor painting with a focus on the art of botanicals. Together, we will navigate a variety of techniques and exercises. I will guide you in refining your skills, knowledge, and confidence as a watercolor artist. We will paint in a variety of botanical imagery as you begin to create your own personal style. This course is for artists with an beginner/intermediate level of watercolor knowledge.

Acrylic Basics

As a beginner’s class the goal is to get a small taste of acrylic painting in a fun playful environment. During this introductory class, beginning students will be introduced to:
1. The use of paint brushes to include loading and stroking of paint onto a substrate (wood and canvas).
2. Positive and Negative Painting Techniques, positive painting focuses on the object/objects in your painting and negative painting is focused on the space around objects.
3. The use of acrylics for crafts and fine art.
4. The use of analogous and complementary colors.

Gouache Techniques

THIS 4-WEEK CLASS MEETS OCTOBER 19TH & 26TH, & NOVEMBER 2ND AND 9TH
FROM 10AM TO NOON

In this four-week class, students will learn how to paint with gouache. Gouache is a wonderful opaque watercolor paint that has been around for centuries. It is used on paper and dries to a matte finish. You will learn all its various uses, from thick to thinned with water, layering techniques and beyond. Students will work from imagination, still life and copying a 19th century master work.

Note: This is a hands-on painting class, with both classwork and homework.

Beginner Acrylics: Developing Shape

THIS 6-WEEK CLASS MEETS AUGUST 11, 18, 25, AND SEPTEMBER 1, 8 AND 15 FROM 1:00PM - 4:00PM

This class is designed to introduce artists to the use and application of acrylic paint. This class will focus on the basic structure of cubes, spheres, cones, and cylinders. We will use these forms in creating several acrylic paintings, allowing the students to work at their own pace. Students will use canvas and distinct acrylic colors to create beautiful pieces of art.

Abstract Oil

THIS 4-WEEK CLASS MEETS SEPTEMBER 7, 14, 21, & 28

In this beginner-level course, instructor Macy West Zimmer will teach students about the intricacies of oil paint, and students will create their own abstract paintings. In the first class, students will explore their materials and surfaces, experiment with mixing, and begin a painting. Macy will guide students through the process of creating their own 16in x 20in painting, and students will expand their knowledge of oil paints and develop different techniques and skills to continue their work.
