About the Instructor

Elizabeth Jewell McMeekin, known as “Libby" by friends and family, was born and raised in Alabama and moved to the New Orleans area as an adult in 1981, where she worked as a nurse until retirement. During high school, she was fortunate enough to paint one acrylic seascape. It was a pleasurable moment that remained in her memory; however, she never painted again until much later in life.
Towards the end of her nursing career, she began taking beginner painting lessons while living on the West Bank of New Orleans. At that time, her instructors included Margaret Hand (Alabama Artist), Judy Erwin, and Flo Cagle.
Upon retirement, Libby was able to devote more time to her favorite form of meditation, “art”. She began taking classes and workshops with multitudes of artist which included Peggy Bergeron, Larissa Clevenger, Melanie Morris, Carol Hallock, Jenny Buckner, and many others. She also submerges herself, on occasion, with You Tube, where many generous artists offer instruction that is both inspirational and very informative. Libby attended the Baton Rouge School of Fine Art and studied with the late Larry Casso and most recently began studying under Gretchen Armbruster in Covington, Louisiana. Her belief is that learning is an ongoing process.
Libby has exhibited in many local and National Shows to include the New Orleans Art Association National Show and the LSU International Vet Med Show. She has won multiple ribbons in various art competitions including West Bank Art Guild, New Orleans Art Association, and Lacombe Art Guild. Libby has frequently commented that the best part of becoming an artist has been the “meditative” experience and the wonderful friends made along the journey. When painting, it is “as if nothing else exists.” Perfect meditation.
