In this class students will explore the visual effects of color and how our eyes and minds perceive it. Students will make a painting a week based upon the various visual effects we will be studying in this class. The supply list is the same as Intro to Color & Design.

In this class, students will learn how to paint with gouache! Gouache is a wonderful opaque watercolor paint that has been in use for centuries. It is used on paper and dries to a matte finish. Students will learn all of its various uses, from thick to thinned with water, layering techniques, and beyond.

This Discovering Watercolor Course is for all skill levels. This four-week course explores nontraditional watercolor techniques. Together, we will navigate a variety of techniques and exercises. Rachael will guide you in developing the skills, knowledge, and confidence in these unique areas of watercolor creation. No prior knowledge of watercolor is required! This course is for adults only. This course is mainly about having fun, creating art with unexpected outcomes, and applying experimental skills to everyday watercolor ideas.

In this four week class, instructor Rachel Crawford will let you in on one of their secrets... COLOR! This beginning Color Theory class will explore the theory and history of color through hands-on color mixing and painting. Students will create a variety of color wheels and each week, will create a small painting applying color mixing theory using the various color wheel relationships to learn color harmony, contrast, and value. This class will also cover the principles of design, the elements of art, and the Divine Proportion when planning out the small painting designs.

*Note: Traditional gouache will be used in this class (see materials list).

Resident ceramics instructor, Janie Dick, will explore old and new techniques used throughout history in ceramics with students. Campers will work with clay and use a variety of techniques to create fabulous ceramic pieces. While developing their fine and major motor skills, children will be encouraged to use their imaginations to create functional and sculptural work on the potter’s wheel and through handbuilding techniques.

Have a teen that’s interested in ceramics or wants to hone their skills? In this camp, hosted by resident ceramics instructor Janie Dick, students will explore old and new techniques used throughout history in ceramics while creating functional and sculptural work inspired by ceramic artists. Students will split their time between the potter’s wheel and developing hand-building techniques. Once their pieces are completed, Janie will teach students about the firing process and how to fire pottery using an electric kiln.

Watercolor: Beginner Botanicals is a four-week course in June that explores the essentials of watercolor painting with a focus on the art of botanicals. Together, we will navigate a variety of techniques and exercises. I will guide you in refining your skills, knowledge, and confidence as a watercolor artist. We will paint in a variety of botanical imagery as you begin to create your own personal style. This course is for artists with an beginner/intermediate level of watercolor knowledge.

As a beginner’s class the goal is to get a small taste of acrylic painting in a fun playful environment. During this introductory class, beginning students will be introduced to:
1. The use of paint brushes to include loading and stroking of paint onto a substrate (wood and canvas).
2. Positive and Negative Painting Techniques, positive painting focuses on the object/objects in your painting and negative painting is focused on the space around objects.
3. The use of acrylics for crafts and fine art.
4. The use of analogous and complementary colors.

Students will paint with watercolor and other compatible mediums such as gouache, ink, and water soluble pencils/crayons. Students will learn how each medium works on its own and experiment with using them with each other. This is a playful and fun class to see what watercolor can do!

Note: This is a hands-on painting class, with both classwork and homework.

THIS 6-WEEK COURSE MEETS
WEDNESDAY, APRIL 10, 17, 24, AND MAY 1, 8, & 15

This six week class is for any new or returning student to learn or refresh drawing skills. Basic design elements combined with foundation drawing techniques will provide the confidence and skill in creating a successful composition. Line, contour, value, mass and weight, texture, and lessons in perspective will be principles covered.

Want to have a girls night, a date night, or a night of family fun? Join us for a night of wine and pottery!

Students will learn the basics of handbuilding with clay. Instructor Janie Dick will teach students how to work with clay to hand build your very own mug. Students will work with stamps and tools to add texture to their pieces, add attachments, and use underglazes to add color. Pieces are then fired, and students will receive an email when they are ready to be picked up!

SUNDAY, JANUARY 14TH, 21ST, 28TH, AND FEBRUARY 4TH & 18TH
AT 1:00PM
THE WEEK OF FEBRUARY 11TH IS SKIPPED FOR FIRING

Over the course of 5 weeks, you will practice throwing different vessels on the wheel, and learn how to to trim, decorate, underglaze, and glaze your pieces. Pieces will be fired at the end of the course and ready to pick up 2 weeks later. Students will receive 15 pounds of low-fire Alligator clay to use throughout this course. Additional clay may be purchased. All students are expected to clean up after themselves. Please bring an old towel to each class for clean up!

This ensures that students will be able to successfully jumpstart their knitting hobby and learn all of the basics. You will create a rubbed scarf and a cabled wash cloth in just one month!
