Painting & Poetry: A Transformational Love Affair

Discover and discuss the transformational relationship between painting and poetry as the two arts merge.

We will look at the works of the great masters and the poems they inspired in such examples as Bruegel’s “Landscape With the Fall of Icarus” and W.H. Auden’s “Musee des Beaux Arts.”

We will also examine the reverse transformation of poems into paintings, such as William Carlos Williams’ “The Great Figure” in Charles Demuth’s “The Figure 5 Into Gold.”

Examining the marriage of these forms is magic. Just bring yourself – images and poems will be provided.

Class leader is Dr. Susan Blalock, Professor Emerita, University of Alaska, and a resident of Abita.
