Glinda’s demo will showcase the use of Pan Pastels, a different type of soft pastels in a cakelike form. They are applied with rubber applicators and are applied as if using a brush. I use them mostly as an underpainting in my marshscapes and sunsets, although they can easily be used as a finished painting.

I have enjoyed painting and drawing since I was a child. After seizing the opportunity to attend art classes as an adult, I have been exploring and learning ever since. My first choice of subjects is usually landscapes. The Louisiana marshlands have been a major source of inspiration.  I never tire of attempting to capture the nuances of light and shadow with a glimpse of wildlife lurking

Glinda Schafer is a representation artist working primarily with soft pastels. The majority of her work is landscapes in which she seeks to combine harmony with an underlying edge of the excitement that is always present in nature. She believes there is beauty in the most ordinary of landscapes and tries to capture the light and mood while delivering to the viewer a kind of peacefulness.

She is a charter member and board member of the Degas Pastel Society, a signature member of DPS, New Orleans Art Association, and a Juried Associate member of the Pastel Society of America. She has won many local and national awards and is in the permanent collections of corporate and private collectors globally
